The Rwanda Stock Exchange marked a significant moment in its commitment to inclusion by hosting the 12th annual Ring the Bell for Gender Equality campaign in Kigali in March .
The event brought together key stakeholders, including UN Women, International Finance Corporation, and the UN Global Compact, to promote gender equality within Rwanda’s capital markets.
Opening the ceremony, Pierre Celestin Rwabukumba ,The CEO of Rwanda stock exchange highlighted the transformative role of inclusion in economic growth.
He emphasized that investing in women’s education and leadership has far reaching national benefits, noting that companies with diverse leadership tend to perform better and drive sustainable outcomes.
His remarks reaffirmed the Exchange’s dedication to fostering inclusive financial systems that empower women as leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Promotion, Consolee Uwimana, reinforced this message by calling for concrete action.
She stressed that achieving genuine gender equality requires more than advocacy it demands tangible investment in women’s economic empowerment and the development of young girls’ professional potential.
Her address underscored the importance of aligning policy, finance, and education to create equal opportunities.
This year’s campaign, themed “Committing to Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls in Rwanda’s Capital Markets,” focused on safeguarding women’s rights while advancing their participation in financial ecosystems.
It also highlighted the importance of supporting women led enterprises as a driver of inclusive economic growth.
A key highlight of the event was the recognition of Hortense Mudenge, who received the Rwanda Stock Exchange’s flagship award for her outstanding contributions to the financial sector through the Kigali International Financial Centre.
Additionally, Gashora Girls Academy was honored under the Next Generation Investors Program for promoting financial literacy among young women.
The school was awarded 2 million Rwandan francs to support its students’ development as future investors.
