The University of Rwanda (UR) has announced a temporary shift to online learning for all colleges and programmes based in Kigali during the upcoming UCI Road World Championship, set to take place in Kigali from September 21 to 28, 2025.
According to a statement issued on September 19 by Office of the Vice Chancellor , “All teaching, learning, and assessment activities for colleges based in Kigali, as well as those with academic programs operating in the city, will be conducted online throughout the duration of the UCI event,”
The university noted that administrative and support staff will also work remotely during this period, except for those providing essential on-site services as determined by their respective principals.
UR thanked further students and staff for their understanding and cooperation.
UCI did not only impact universities, but also nursery, primary, and secondary schools in Kigali encountered this temporary closure.
The UCI Road World Championships have a rich history, with the first event taking place in 1921. Traditionally dominated by European nations, the decision to host the edition in Kigali for the first time in Africa signifies a pivotal moment in the sport’s global expansion.
