Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo is pushing for stronger economic ties with Rwanda, highlighting the need for direct air links between the two countries.

Speaking at the High-Level Business Leaders’ Roundtable at the Kigali Convention Centre on Wednesday, August 29, on his second day of his visit to Rwanda, President Chapo said Africa faces challenges in connecting its countries through air services.
“Sometimes people have to travel via Europe or Doha just to reach a neighbouring country. We need a direct aerial link between Maputo and Kigali,” he said, adding that such connections are vital for boosting trade, empowering youth and women, and strengthening the two nations’ roles on the continent.
President Chapo also stressed that both Rwanda and Mozambique are determined to transform their economies and expand opportunities for citizens.
“We are two nations determined to transform our economies, to empower our citizens, especially the youth and women, and to strengthen our role on the African continent,” he said.
Rwanda Development Board (RDB) CEO Afrika Jean Guy said both countries stand to benefit from sharing business experiences and learning from each other’s ecosystems.
“By sharing experiences in building competitive enterprises, expanding regional value chains, and attracting investors, our firms can scale faster and more effectively in continental and global markets,” he noted.
