Luton Town player will be part of Amavubi ahead of friendly match with Algeria

Claude Kayibanda, a Rwandan player from English club Luton Town to play for Amavubi in a friendly match against Algeria.

Rwanda’s national football team, Amavubi, is set to receive a boost with the addition of Claude Kayibanda, a player from English club Luton Town, ahead of their friendly match against Algeria scheduled for June 5.”

This match is part of preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers, World Cup set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

Both Algeria and Rwanda are performing well in their respective qualifying groups, with Rwanda currently in second place behind South Africa, while Algeria leads Group 7 with 15 points.

The friendly match was announced by Algeria’s national team through their social media platforms on April 21, 2025.

Kayibanda, who is still part of Luton Town’s U-21 squad, will join Amavubi for their upcoming friendly match against Algeria, set to be played in Algeria.

This initiative is part of the Rwandan football authorities and other related Individuals project,  to bring players of Rwandan descent born in various countries around the world, with the aim of improving performance and competitiveness of Amavubi.
