Guardiola to take break after Manchester City contract

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Head Coach.

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, on May 3 2025, announced he will take a break from football when his contract ends in 2027, though he hasn’t confirmed whether he will retire immediately.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Guardiola said, “After my contract in Man City, I’m going to stop. I don’t know if I’ll retire, but I’m going to take a break.”

Although his contract was originally set to end in 2025, Guardiola extended it in November 2024 by two more years, pushing the end date to 2027.

This season, Guardiola’s side is 18 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and fighting for a Champions League spot.

Now 54, Guardiola has managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich before joining Man City in 2016. In his nine years with the club, he has won 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, and a host of domestic and international cups.
