University of Rwanda is set to hold its 10th graduation ceremony at Huye Campus stadium on December 25, celebrating a decade of academic excellence since its formation.
Hundreds of international students hailing from 21 African countries are among over 8,000 students from various academic programs and levels that are expected to graduate during the event .
To ensure the success of the event, Ignatius Kabagambe, the University of Rwanda spokesperson, informed Kaminuza star that the graduation ceremony has been organized in close collaboration with Huye District, provincial authorities, security agencies, utility companies, and private sector partners.
“Graduating students are advised to follow UR media platforms for updates on gown collection, invitation distribution, and other event details.” He added
As of today, the UR has provided graduates with a link to confirm their attendance and access other important details. This information is now available on the university’s website and social media platforms, ensuring that all graduates are informed and prepared for the upcoming ceremony.
Frank Kushaba, the speaker of the board in the University of Rwanda Students’ Union (URSU) highlighted the active involvement of students in the lead-up to the graduation. “Our students have taken on important roles as agents for their fellow graduates, particularly in assisting with clearance processes in the finance department,” he noted.
“The expectation is not only to celebrate those graduating but to inspire younger students as well. Witnessing their peers reach this milestone will undoubtedly fuel their own aspirations and ambitions, as they experience it firsthand,” he added
The speaker also emphasized that students are expected to play a key part in the activities on the day of the event itself, further strengthening their engagement in the process.
Alice Umutesi, a student who is set to graduate with a bachelor in Journalism & Communication, shared her current preparations and expectations for the upcoming graduation ceremony with Kaminuza Star.
“It’s been both challenging and fulfilling, and I’m really looking forward to the graduation ceremony. I’m excited to celebrate this achievement with my friends and family, and I hope this milestone opens doors to new opportunities.” she said.
Since 2014, over 72,000 students have graduated from the University of Rwanda. Established in 2013 through the merger of the former National University of Rwanda and six other public higher learning institutions.
The university now serves over 30,000 students across six colleges nationwide. It provides a range of academic options, with 87 undergraduate programs and 138 postgraduate programs.
