German students’ delegation visits University of Rwanda

Students from University of Koblenz – Landau

On Tuesday 22nd May 2018, A delegation from University of Koblenz – Landau paid a courtesy visit to the University of Rwanda thanks to the existing partnership between two institutions that focuses of students exchange and joint research activities.

The delegation consisted of students, Professor Martin Putz and Prof Siegmar Seidel, the Director of Rwanda-Center and Office for Africa-Cooperation at the University of Koblenz-Landau.

The delegation was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Institutional Advancement, Ambassador Dr. Charles Murigande and Dr Etienne RUVEBANA, the Ag Principal of UR-CASS.

Professor Martin Putz said that “the visit was organized because Koblez students have interest in languages, (English and French).

We came to Rwanda to have some understanding about Rwanda and linguistic composition of languages. We chose to come to Rwanda because Rwanda and Cameroon are the only African bilingual countries that has two foreign official languages.” Said Professor Putiz.

In his welcome remarks, Dr Charles Murigande noted that “the University of Rwanda’s focus is on delivering graduates who fits in today’s labor market with English as medium of teaching and learning.”

He also pointed out that the University of Rwanda is pleased with good relationship with German based institution giving an example of UR based EAC Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM) financed by a German public development bank.

Siegmar Seidel, the Director of Rwanda-Center and Office for Africa-Cooperation at Koblenz-Landau thanked UR for the partnership with University of Koblenz-Landau and said that “the University of Koblenz-Landau is ready to give what it takes to make sure that the partnership is fruitful to both institutions especially to students who will be involved.

The cooperation between UR and Koblenz-Landau was established in 2017 with the purpose of ensuring joint research activities and students exchange. The cooperation was initiated after the visit of Prof. Dr. Roman Heiligenthal, President of the University of Koblenz-Landau in March 2016.
