UR issues over 5000 degree certificates on graduation day

The University of Rwanda on Friday, November 18, has offered degrees to the graduates who completed their courses in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Masters, and Bachelor’s degree in Nyagatare District, at Gorigota stadium.

It has been a great pleasure and special day for graduates to celebrate in a gathering and relaxing manner compared to the hardest time during Covid-19 pandemic.
The graduates has attended with their friends and parents. It is the eighth UR graduation that is an oddity day because it is the first time the degree certificates handed to the students on the same day of graduation.

Patrick Ngabo, a University of Rwanda graduate in School of Journalism and Communication reveals that the day has been a unique and different compared to the previous time when Covid-19 was hectic in action.

“There is a big difference between today’s and recent graduation; the people were free because respecting the regulations against Covid-19 has not been essential, the graduates have been celebrating physically and make graduation ceremony powerful”, He says.
He also points out that the ceremony has left him the cheerfulness: “Graduation has left pleasure in my heart as we meet with our colleagues and got our degree certificates which were delayed by the Covid-9 pandemic. I am no longer feeling the burdens from academic struggles, that is the meaning of this day…”, He reacts.

Another graduate from College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy says that last year graduation held virtually, and some people lacked awareness about the ongoing ceremony.

“Depending on everyone’s courses, it is possible to meet difficulties. It is long and hard journey to pass through particular years in academia with success and occasionally failures but the target is to come up with success. That’s why today I personally have celebrated the achievement obtained”, She says.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda, Dr. Muganga Kayihura Didas has congratulated the graduates who achieve their dreams and promises that UR will keep closer in succeeding other steps: “This is not an end, but the beginning. We have confidence in you if there is anyone who doubts about it…”.

Prime Minister of Rwanda, Dr. Edourd Ngirente and the guest of honor in the ceremony has congratulated the graduates who has succeeded well and reaching to the level of being given their degree certificates and requests them to be a catalyst of change and be role models anywhere they will reach.

“We wish our graduated students to be lucky in life outside of classes and in all activities that they will do on behalf of our country. We hope that you will exploit your studies. We thank the University of Rwanda for the step reached”, He says.

The University of Rwanda has offered 5702 degree certificates to students who completed their courses in different levels including 25 in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), 628 in Masters, and the rest in Bachelor’s degrees. Among the graduates, over 100 students are foreigners from 21 countries which marks a good standard of the institution.

Furthermore, since 2016, UR has been being a center of exemplary institutions at the East African level in grating contributions to the problems, research, and pieces of training. The governmental analysis is ongoing and intended to develop quality education and provide updates on needed improvements in this university.
